Yesterday was a very important day – the anniversary of the day of birth of my best pal, Bevan Ramsay.
Bevan and I met in fine art school no less than 20 years ago. He was the sort of guy who was good at everything, from creating art to waiting tables to climbing fire escapes (he still is good at everything – except maybe dancing.) We became fast friends… and it’s not an understatement to say he played a significant role in my artistic and even my personal development. We eventually became roommates in a crazy loft above a cafe in Old Montreal, where we would throw huge parties that Bevan had the uncanny ability to sleep through if he happened to get tired. We’ve been each other’s sounding boards, collaborated on countless projects, and played too many games of pool to count.
I’m proud of his achievements over the years – completing his MFA in sculpture, making amazing art (see www.bevanramsay.com), exploring the world, marrying an amazing girl and becoming a father.
Today we live in different countries, and wives and babies are on the scene. No matter where our paths take us, I’ll continue to value his friendship as much as I did back then.
Here he is in 2011, in a pizzeria in New Haven, Connecticut.
Happy birthday, Bevan.
